Relative manual

GRATIS

The cars close to you on track, ahead and behind, with the seconds between you and each of them and the track flag around it. A GRATIS (free) plan overlay of Raptor Racing Overlay.

The Relative shows who is close to you ON TRACK, which is not always who is close to you in the standings: above, the cars you are catching; below, the ones coming for you; and you in the middle row. Each row tells you how many seconds away that car is and carries its class color, so you can decide at a glance who to attack and who to let by.

At the top there is a bar with data about your car and the session (oil, TC, ABS, brake bias, SOF, incidents and more), and it is framed by the flag iRacing is showing. At the bottom, your best lap, your last lap and which lap you are on. It only reads iRacing data: it never changes anything on your car.

Relative manual 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9

Example with made-up drivers and the yellow flag on top, its default place. The dashes in the bottom row are lap times that haven't arrived yet.

  1. 1The track flag: a frame in the color of the flag iRacing is showing, with its name on the strip. Here, YELLOW FLAG.
  2. 2Oil temperature: the oil can changes color with the temperature, and the number goes next to it.
  3. 3TC, ABS and Brake Bias: the traction control knob, the ABS knob and the brake bias (the brake disc icon).
  4. 4SOF: the strength of field of your class, in a gold pill.
  5. 5Incidents: the triangle with your incidents and the series limit. It turns red when you have 3 or fewer left.
  6. 6Position and class: the driver's position within their class and the stripe in their class color.
  7. 7Your row: always in the middle, highlighted in your class color. Above are the cars ahead of you on track; below, the ones behind.
  8. 8The gap: the seconds between you and that car, with no sign: being above or below your row already tells you whether it is ahead or behind.
  9. 9The bottom row: Best and Last are your best and last laps; Lap, which lap you are on and out of how many.

Every flag, as you see it

This is how the Relative looks with each flag iRacing shows, with the strip on top, its default place. The frame is a thin border around the overlay and, on the side you choose (top, bottom, left or right), a wider strip with the flag's name. When it appears it blinks softly for 3 seconds, and then it stays steady for as long as the flag is out. iRacing's other flags (black, red, debris, repair, disqualified and warning) show up too, with their color and their name, even though they have no photo here: they are all listed in The track flag section below.

No flag
No flagWhile iRacing shows no flag, the Relative stands on its own, with no frame or strip. It also looks like this once the green flag has had its 5 seconds.
YELLOW FLAG
YELLOW FLAGDanger on track: there's a slow or stopped car, or a crash, up ahead. Lift, don't overtake in that zone and be ready to avoid it. The strip is yellow, with black stripes at the ends and a warning triangle before the name.
BLUE FLAG
BLUE FLAGA faster car is catching you: one about to lap you or, in multiclass, one from a faster class. Let it by without suddenly changing your line. The strip is plain blue, with the name in white.
WHITE FLAG
WHITE FLAGThe last lap is starting. The strip is plain white, with the name in black.
CHECKERED FLAG
CHECKERED FLAGThe session is over: in a race, it's the finish. The strip is white, with black checks at both ends.
CAUTION
CAUTIONFull-course caution, with the safety car: no overtaking, and you run in line. It stays on for the lap before the restart. It looks like the yellow one, with stripes at the ends and the triangle, but with its own name.
GREEN FLAG
GREEN FLAGStart or restart: the track is clear, go racing. The strip is plain green. iRacing keeps it on for the whole race, so the Relative shows it for 5 seconds and then removes it on its own.

The top bar, item by item

Every item in the bar has its own switch. By default you get oil temperature, TC, ABS, Brake Bias, SOF and incidents; the session and its clock are there for whoever wants them.

Up to six spaces fit at once: each item takes one, and the session time, the widest of all, takes three. When you reach the limit, the rest turn gray until you switch another one off. That way the bar never widens the overlay or covers one item with another.

If you make the table narrower by switching columns off and what you picked no longer fits, the bar hides items in this order until it does: session, session time, Brake Bias, ABS, TC, oil, SOF and incidents.

OIL TEMPERATURE
The oil can is gray below 60 °C (cold engine), green from 60 to 120 °C, yellow from 120 to 130 °C and red from 130 °C. These are general thresholds, the same for every car. If iRacing is set to imperial units, the number is shown in Fahrenheit.
TC and ABS
The position of the traction control knob and the ABS knob. If the car doesn't have them, you see a dash; a 0 means they are set to zero.
BRAKE BIAS
The brake bias, with the disc icon and a % next to it. It is the knob value exactly as iRacing sends it: on most cars it is the front percentage, but on some cars the knob is not in percent.
SESSION
Which session it is: PRACTICE, QUALY, RACE, WARMUP or TEST.
SESSION TIME
Time left and session length, for example 12:34 / 45m. In an open-ended practice you see --:--.
SOF
The strength of field using the iRating of the drivers in your class, not the whole session, with iRacing's own formula. Shown in thousands: 2.7k.
INCIDENTS
Your incidents and the series limit, like 2/17; if the series has no limit, 2/-. The triangle and the number turn red when you are 3 incidents or fewer from the limit.

The track flag

When iRacing shows a flag, the Relative gets framed with it: a thin border all around and, on one side, a wider strip with the flag's name. For the first 3 seconds it blinks softly to catch your eye; after that it stays steady for as long as the flag is out.

The frame sits outside the overlay: it never covers any data and it doesn't take clicks, they go straight through. The strip goes on top by default, and you can put it at the bottom, on the left, on the right or in the center. In the center there is no strip: a banner with the name shows over the table for 4 seconds, and then only the frame remains. If there is no room on screen on the side you chose (for example, with the overlay against the top edge), the strip moves to the opposite side.

If two flags are out at once, you see the more important one, in the order of this list. The dark ones get a light edge so they stand out against the overlay background. The flag doesn't show while you are moving the overlay or when it is on its own screen.

DISQUALIFIED
Black: you have been disqualified.
BLACK FLAG
Black: you have a penalty to serve.
REPAIR
Black with an orange circle: you have to pit for repairs.
RED FLAG
Red: the session is stopped.
CHECKERED FLAG
White with checks at the ends: the session is over.
CAUTION
Yellow with stripes: full-course caution, including the lap before the green.
YELLOW FLAG
Yellow with stripes: danger on track.
DEBRIS
Yellow with red stripes: there is debris on track.
BLUE FLAG
Blue: a faster car is catching you.
WARNING
Black with a white diagonal: a warning, no penalty yet.
WHITE FLAG
White: last lap.
GREEN FLAG
Green: start or restart. It shows for 5 seconds and goes away on its own, because iRacing keeps it on for the whole race.

The rows and the columns

Your row is always in the middle. Above are the cars ahead of you on track, the closest one right next to you; below, the ones behind. By default it shows 3 ahead and 3 behind, and you can choose from 2 to 5. If there aren't enough cars nearby, those rows stay empty and your row doesn't leave the middle.

The gap is measured from where each car is on track, using your lap time, so it also works in multiclass. It has one decimal up to 100 seconds.

In a race, the position is worked out live from where each car is, because iRacing only updates it when crossing the line. Once the checkered flag is out, iRacing's classification takes over.

POSITION
The driver's position within their class.
CAR NUMBER
The number painted on the car, in a pill in its class color. Off by default.
CLASS COLOR
The stripe in the class color and a gradient behind the logo.
CAR LOGO
The car make; if there is no image, a box with its letters.
FLAG
The driver's country, with a rectangular or round flag.
DRIVER
The name: full (Renzo Chavez), with the last name shortened (Renzo Ch.) or with the initial (R. Chavez).
PIT LABELS
OUT, the lap of their last stop and the penalty flags.
TIRES
The compound they are on, or the laps on that set in endurance mode.
LICENSE AND SAFETY RATING
The license letter, in its color, and the Safety Rating.
IRATING
In thousands: 2.4k.
BEST LAP
That driver's best lap in the session. Off by default because it makes the overlay wider.
TIME GAP
How many seconds away from you they are.

Colors and labels

  • Your row is highlighted in your class color.
  • Name in red: that car is one lap or more ahead and about to lap you. Name in blue: it is one lap or more behind, lapped. Only in races, and with cars of any class.
  • Red background behind the gap: you are not fighting that car for position, because it is in another class or laps apart. The gap is still useful to know when it will reach you. Only in races.
  • Gray row: that car is on pit road. It stays in view because it will come back, but right now you are not racing it.
  • OUT, in a yellow box: it is on its out lap. It goes away when it crosses the line.
  • L and a number, in a yellow pill: the lap on which it last entered the pits, for example L12.
  • Penalty flag: it takes the place of OUT and wins over it. The black one (penalty or disqualification), the repair one or the warning one.

Tires and endurance mode

The tire column shows which compound each car is on: gray for dry and blue for wet.

In endurance mode, the tire becomes a circle with the laps that set has done. Yours are exact. For other cars, iRacing doesn't say whether they changed tires: it is worked out by comparing how long they stood still with what the fuel load explains. If the crew refuels and changes tires at the same time with a nearly empty tank, there is no way to tell from outside, and it counts as a change.

By default the mode is set to Automatic: in team races. You can also set it to Always or Never.

At the bottom, in replays and on your phone

With the replays and spectating box checked, when you watch a race or a replay the Relative follows the car the camera is on: the middle row is that car's, and Best, Last and Lap are theirs. Incidents show a dash, because iRacing doesn't give other drivers' incidents.

With the PRO plan, the Relative can also be seen on your phone or tablet through the WiFi Connection, flag included, and in OBS through Streaming.

Best and Last
Your best lap and your last lap of the session.
Lap
Which lap you are on and out of how many. In a lap race, the exact total (3/20). In a timed race, an estimate with ~ and one decimal (3/~40.0), recalculated from the time left and your pace: the decimal tells you whether one more lap is about to fit in.

Controls and settings

  • On the overlay: the = button in the top right corner opens the same menu as the right click. With Allow moving the overlay on, you drag it wherever you want; the size is changed from a corner in move mode.
  • Right click on the overlay: Drivers in view, Driver name, Flags, Columns, Top bar (one switch per item, up to six spaces), Track flag (Show the flag and which side it goes on), Font size (7 to 14; 8 by default), Also show it in the garage, Also show it in replays and when spectating, Allow moving the overlay, Own screen and Background opacity. At the end, Export gaps (txt) and Save the last 3 minutes, which save what the overlay saw so you can check it later, and Close Relative.
  • Own screen: sends the overlay to another screen (the rig's, a tablet, a separate monitor) and fills it. There, right-click works anywhere on the screen, black background included. To leave: Esc, double-click or Leave own screen, the first line of that menu.
  • In the Raptor Racing Overlay menu, the Relative settings have three tabs: THE TABLE (DRIVERS IN VIEW, ENDURANCE MODE and COLUMNS), THE BAR (THE BAR DATA and TRACK FLAG, with Show the flag and the side; changing anything shows a sample yellow flag) and LOOKS (DRIVER NAME, FLAGS, FONT SIZE, OWN SCREEN, BACKGROUND OPACITY, DATA OPACITY, Allow moving the overlay by dragging it, WHERE IT SHOWS and SEE IT ON YOUR PHONE). Restore factory settings puts everything back as it came without moving it.

Tips

  1. In multiclass, look at the colors before the numbers: red name, let them by; red behind the gap, not your fight.
  2. Keep the flag on top or at the bottom if you don't want anything over the table: in the center, the banner covers it for 4 seconds.
  3. Want the session clock? Switch other items off first: it takes three of the six spaces.
  4. In team races, the number on your rivals' tires tells you who has fresher rubber.
  5. If the incident triangle turns red, you have 3 or fewer left before the limit: time to take care.
